Projects

In this section you’ll find detailed information on some selected astrophotography projects. Those can include my biggest projects (e.g. mosaics) or some other special events (e.g. asteroids, meteor showers, ISS passes) that I feel are worthy enough to be documented in more detail.

NGC 7000
North America Nebula

4-PANEL MOSAIC

This was my first attempt at shooting a mosaic. Given that the North America Nebula is relatively bright and therefore easy to shoot, it is a decent target for the first attempt.

The mosaic consists of 4 panels with 4 hours of data each shot with a one-shot color camera through a duo-narrowband filter.

(7482) 1994 Pc1

asteroid

1994 PC1 is a small asteroid around 1.1 kilometers in diameter which had a close approach to Earth in January 2021 during which it passed Earth at a distance of around 2 million kilometers.

Capturing this asteroid pass was by no means planned, I only read about the event a couple of hours before it happened. Luckily there was a small break in the clouds around the hour of its closest approach which allowed me to unpack the scope real quick and capture this 20 minute timelapse.

C/2020 F3 NEOWISE

Comet

C/2020 F3 NEOWISE is a long period comet that reached perihelion on July 3, 2020. It was best-visible in early to mid-july shortly after sunset.

I was lucky enough to get 2 clear nights to capture this comet. First I did a widefield image to showcase its realtive size in the sky, then a more close-up image to show more detail.

The comet had a pretty prominent ion tail which you can just see hints of in my image. Sadly my astrophotography skills weren’t all too amazing back in 2020, so I couldn’t really capture it in all its glory.
